Ecole Centrale Nantes trains 360 students per year within its general engineering programme leading to the 'diplôme d'ingénieur' equivalent to a Master's Degree in Engineering. This qualification is awarded to students after a total of five years of higher education.
The admissions process is highly selective. French students with excellent high school results spend two years in the intensive 'classes préparatoires aux grandes écoles' preparing for the 'concours' - competitive entrance examinations to French engineering schools. Successful candidates then undertake three years of study at Centrale Nantes - corresponding to the senior undergraduate year and two graduate years.
The first year (senior undergraduate year) is devoted to a common-core curriculum - a broad-based multi-disciplinary engineering training which includes courses in modern languages, management, social sciences and sports. Students choose a specialisation in each of the two subsequent graduate years as well as a professional option in the final year only.
Courses from the engineering programme are open to international students - selected by our partner institutions abroad - as part of a double degree or via an exchange year or semester.
Those selected to follow the double degree spend two years here within the engineering programme:
one year of the common-core engineering syllabus and one year of specialisation. Exchange year or semester students usually join the final year of the engineering programme choosing both a specialisation and a professional option to obtain ECTS credits.
The academic year is divided into two semesters:
- 1st/Autumn Semester: from the beginning of September to the end of January
- 2nd/Spring Semester: from February to July.
