Double Diploma in Engineering and Architecture

In partnership with ensa Nantes - Ecole Nationale Supérieure d'Architecture de Nantes

A dual culture in engineering and architecture at the crossroads of civil engineering, environment and architecture

Students follow a four-and-a-half year curriculum, broken down as follows:
  • The first 2 years of the engineering programme at Centrale Nantes, comprising a core curriculum and a specialisation in one of the following fields: Construction, Building and Urban Physics, Digital Society and Urban Issues. This part of the programme includes 120 hours of architecture courses.
  • 2 years at ensa Nantes (to Master level)
  • Final 6-month internship

Selection of applicants

During the first year of the engineering programme, applicants for the double diploma take part in architecture courses and exercises for two months. At the end of this period, they are selected based on their application form, results and interview.

Successful completion of the double diploma programme leads to dual certification in engineering (certifié CTI - commission des titres d'ingénieur) and in architecture (certifié CCST - commission culturelle, scientifique et technique pour les formations en architecture)

Student Profile

Paul  V.,
Double Diploma in Engineering and Architecture

"I have long wanted to work in the field of civil engineering and in particular in the building industry. Thus, my decision to apply to Centrale Nantes because it offered a double diploma in engineering and architecture (six and a half years of higher education in total). This kind of programme is rather rare in France, unlike in other countries where the two disciplines are more closely related. But it is a real opportunity since it allows us to understand projects, from the sketch phase right through to completion, and to propose technical solutions adapted to architectural objectives. It means using both the language of the engineer and that of the architect to carry out a project.
Right after enrolling at Centrale Nantes, I was able to follow this double programme and tackle both the technical aspects of a building, be they mechanical calculations, European regulations or materials, and the creative aspects such as sketches, plans, the ambiences, standards etc.
The complementarity of these two disciplines allowed me to acquire a dual vision, bringing out technique and aesthetics, rigor and inventiveness. During my various internships, I realized the true value of this double-diploma through exchanges with building professionals."
