  • A look back at NuTTS 2016: Propellers and ships in waves

    This year, Centrale Nantes, the French National Research Centre and the LHEEA laboratory (Hydrodynamics, Energetics & Atmospheric Environment Laboratory) co-organised the 19th edition of NuTTs "Numerical Towing Tank Symposium". The conference covered the numerical simulation of flows around ships and offshore structures with a strong link to concrete applications.We look back at the exchanges between experts.
  • Floatgen, First floating-wind turbine installed off the French coast

    The Floatgen European research project led by Ideol on offshore wind energy will be a first in France: the deployment of a 2MW integrated floating-wind turbine system, at the SEM-REV test site.
  • Marine Renewable Energies on the "18h à savoir" programme

    Sea waves and currents generate phenomenal amounts of energy. What about transforming it into electricity? Engineers are exploring new solutions: offshore wind turbines, hydro-wind turbines, wave power. To test them in real offshore conditions, Centrale Nantes has commissioned a MRE multi-technology test site connected to the power grid off the coast from Le Croisic.

  • Smarter grids with Centrale Nantes

    Distributing electricity has become more complicated than ever: networks are interconnected at the European level, new producers are entering the market and the new sources of electricity (wind, photovoltaic ... . ) do not produce the same amount of energy throughout the day or year. How to direct traffic to avoid accidents and transport electricity to where and when it's needed? This puzzle was worth an industrial chair, it was created at the beginning of 2015 at Centrale Nantes.

    Centrale Nantes has been involved in health for many years now. MeForBio, a research team specialising in bioinformatics, is undertaking research, together with a team of biologists from the University of Nice, on mammalian responses to circadian disruptions.

MeForBio, a research team specialising in bioinformatics, is undertaking research together with the French National Institute of Health and Medical Research (INSERM) to find out more about multiple myeloma, a cancer that starts in the bone marrow.

  • BIOREGOS 2: Elastomers and human tissue

    Centrale Nantes researchers Erwan Verron and Bertrand Huneau, both from the MPTC team (Materials, Processes and Composite Technology) of the Research Institute of Civil Engineering and Mechanics, enjoy a successful collaboration on the behaviour of elastomers (rubber). The former focuses on modelling the behaviour of these materials whilst the latter’s interest lies in developing innovative experiments.
  • Health - a myocontrolled bionic hand

  • MRI quantif: The MRI of the future

    The ‘MRI quantif’ project brings together researchers from Centrale Nantes - David Le Touzé (fluid mechanics, H2I research group of the LHEEA laboratory), Jérôme Idier and Saïd Moussaoui (signal processing, ADTSI research group of the IRCCyN laboratory) – and researchers from the Institut du Thorax, Nantes University Hospital - Jean-Michel Serfaty (radiology, MRI), Perrine Paul-Gilloteaux (signal processing) and Hubert Desal (radiology, MRI).

Association to answer this question: can a humanoid robot be a mediation support in autism therapy?
  • Type 1 Diabetes: towards an artificial pancreas, made in Nantes

    Type 1 diabetes affects 200 000 people in France today. Research is focusing on an artificial pancreas to bring them some relief on a daily basis and simplify the administering of medicine. Researchers at Centrale Nantes have been working on the subject for several years and are today advocating Nantes’ version of the artificial pancreas, based on ease of use for patients and doctors alike.


  • AKRYVIA: Mastering the extreme

    Founded in 2015 by a Centrale Nantes alumni and two co-founders, AKRYVIA is a deep-tech company developing disruptive plasma intensification technology, with its first application in industrial metal cutting. This new method improves precision and offers energy savings and productivity gains.
  • AMOS: Additive Manufacturing Optimisation and Simulation Project

    Centrale Nantes is one of the partners in the ongoing Additive Manufacturing Optimisation and Simulation (AMOS) project, which is developing a number of additive materials and processes for the repair of aircraft parts. The four-year AMOS project benefits from European funding under the Horizon 2020 programme, as well as Canadian funding through the agencies CARIC and NSERC.
  • inVirtus Technologies: Asset tracking - Industry 4.0

    inVirtus Technologies is a start-up co-founded by Centrale Nantes and Audencia Business School graduates and hosted in the Incubateur Centrale-Audencia-ensa Nantes.
  • Naval Group and Centrale Nantes print the world’s first hollow propeller blade

    Naval Group and Centrale Nantes have printed the first demonstrator of hollow propeller blades by metal additive manufacturing as part of the European H2020 project, RAMSSES*.
  • New concrete based on co-products to reduce greenhouse gas emissions

    The Research Institute in Civil and Mechanical Engineering (GeM, UMR 6183) at Centrale Nantes is currently working on the ECOREB project which aims to define concrete formulations made of aggregates resulting from the demolition of concrete structures that can be used in the design of infrastructure and buildings.

  • Improving aircraft safety in the event of emergency ditching
    April 15, 2019
    The SARAH project aims to establish new simulation-based approaches to the analysis of aircraft and helicopter ditching. The project is coordinated by IBK-Innovation and its consortium involves several academic and industrial players, including the LHEEA lab at Centrale Nantes. Results of SARAH are expected to support the trustworthiness of aviation services.
  • Nantes 1900
    January 18, 2018
    Jointly developed by Centrale Nantes, the University of Nantes and the History Museum of Nantes "Castle of the Dukes of Brittany", the multimedia device "NANTES 1900" was officially opened to the public on 17 September 2015 in the presence of Johanna Rolland, Mayor of Nantes.
