[Logiciel] 3D modeling
Automatic extraction of boundaries from 3D model

Une offre innovante

The solution considers first “extraction of boundary edges” and then traversing along the boundaries to get the exact boundary profile (contour) in opposed to the existing algorithms based on points and ray tracing algorithm.
The complexity of the algorithm is decided by the user as it depends only on the number of triangles (polygons) in the 3D model represented in STL (polygon facets).
The output of the algorithm is projection boundaries (contours) in terms of polygons.
For implementation : The 3D models are created in parametric and feature based modeling packages namely SolidWorks, CATIA and ProE. The STL files are generated from the native format using available translator in these modeling software packages. The generated STL files are used as input to the developed algorithm.

Applications potentielles

Additive manufacturing : developing optimal orientation of the parts
Visualization and simulation purposes for collaborative design
Virtual Reality applications
Computer Aided Design
Computer graphics
Geometric modeling

Bénéfices de la technologie

Performance : exact boundaries are extracted by the proposed algorithm.
Flexibility : the complexity of the algorithm is decided by the user.
Extraction is independent of shape of the 3D model and shape of projection.
Based on projection of visible facets.
Time saving : very fast extraction
