Cities and climate: Closing day of the RI-ADAPTCLIM Project

The RI-ADAPTCLIM project - International Network on Risk Assessment and Climatic Adaptation of Civil Engineering and Building Works - comes to end at the end of November. A closing day bringing together the partners (Centrale Nantes, University of Nantes, IFSTTAR, CSTB), PhD students and master students will be held on campus on 21 February 2018.

Projections predict significant changes to the future climate (IPCC, 2007).
The objective of the RI-ADAPTCLIM project is to study in the short and medium term (2020 and 2100) the climatic risk on soil, buildings and infrastructure. An integrated, interdisciplinary and multi-physical approach is followed with the aim of proposing decision-making tools - methodologies, numerical models, training - to improve the resilience of cities faced with weather hazards as a result of climate change.

Meeting challenges together
To meet these challenges, the research teams in the GIS LiRGeC - Ligérien Institute of Research in Civil Engineering and Construction (Centrale Nantes, UN, IFSTTAR, CSTB) - and 9 international partners (The University of Newcastle, Laboratório Nacional de Engenharia Civil, Ecole Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne, University of Sherbrooke, Université Libre de Bruxelles, Laval University, Delft University of Technology, University of Liège and Polytechnic University of Catalonia)  will deploy their skills, and their experimental and numerical means.

The consortium brings together research teams working on the themes of civil engineering and construction and who have worked together closely for years to provide answers to current societal challenges such as risk analysis, durability of materials and works.

More specifically, three priority areas have been identified corresponding to the areas of excellence of the regional partner teams:

  • civil engineering structures
  • infrastructure
  • geotechnics
