Conference - debate: the scientific activities of the French Ski Federation

Skiing from a scientific angle: an unusual subject in our region far removed from the ski slopes. Centrale Nantes gives you the opportunity to learn more about the subject on 25 September at a conference, given by Nicolas COULMY, Director of the Sports and Scientific department of the French Ski Federation. Open to all.

As part of the Scientific Challenge 2024 specialisation, Alban Leroyer (head of the specialisation), is taking advantage of Nicolas Coulmy's presence in the region, to meet with students and discuss ways to support sports performance, and benefit from his experience. A public lecture is also planned. The conference, which is co-organized by Centrale Nantes and CREPS Pays de la Loire (Center for Resources, Expertise and Sports Performance) partner of the Scientific Challenge Specialisation, with the support of the Research and Sport Network in the Pays de la Loire, will be focused on both science and sports performance: "Scientific activities of the French Ski Federation"with Nicolas Coulmy, Director of the sports and scientific department of the French Ski Federation.

Nicolas Coulmy will explain how his department works and give examples of hands-on studies carried out in different areas:

  • aerodynamics
  • motion analysis
  • motor control
  • perceptual and physical signatures
  • physiology
  • mental skills
The French Ski Federation is one of the most structured sports federations in terms of research and development for performance assistance. The sports and scientific department (DSS) of the FFS is a separate entity, led by Nicolas Coulmy. This structure is innovative. It promotes the transmission of sports and scientific knowledge by acting as an interface between the sports sector and the scientific sector.
