OCEANEXT 2019 conference in July 2019

OCEANEXT 2019 is the second edition of the international multidisciplinary conference, initiated in 2016 by the COSELMAR programme (2013-2017). Organized by the 'Institut Universitaire Mer et Littoral (IUML)', the general theme of OCEANEXT 2019 is "Building the future of marine and coastal socio-ecosystems". The conference will bring together international scientists and will emphasize the multidisciplinary nature of the issues addressed.

OCEANEXT 2019 will take place on the 3rd, 4th and 5th of July at Nantes Exhibition Center at the heart of the MER XXL International Exhibition .

Centrale Nantes is a partner of this conference as an IUML member.

Multiple topics

Oceanext 2019 is organized into 4 themes:
 

Theme 1: Understanding the past and representations of the sea

  •     The tide: a flow of imagination
  •     Science and imaginary perceptions of the sea
  •     Seas and coastline; controversies about resources, knowledge and uses

Theme 2: Global changes

  •     Impact of climate change on ocean fisheries
  •     Climate change for coastal communities, infrastructure and cities: risks, adaptation and acceptability
  •     Effects of climate change on harmful algae blooms and impacts on marine and coastal socio-ecosystems

Theme 3: Tomorrow’s innovations

  •     Future trends in maritime structures: science fiction or reality?
  •     Interdisciplinary challenges and solutions for the deployment of Marine Renewable Energies (MRE)
  •     Legal, economical and technological issues for co-activity: utopia or our future?
  •     Microalgae: cell factories of the future
  •     Using the ocean: new marine molecules,  invasive marine species and the rights of all forms of life

Theme 4: Future challenges in methodology

  •     Remote sensing for sustainable coastal zone management
  •     Toward a digital socio-ecosystem? Modelling complex systems, individual interactions, uncertainty and big data.
  •     Marine spatial planning

In an international context

Maritime and coastal area planning issues and governance models (including integrated coastal area management); legal aspects (obstacles and innovation in maritime law). The last half-day will be devoted to round tables with scientists and professionals from different maritime sectors.
