One of the world's five most powerful cameras on campus

Centrale Nantes is now home to one of the world's five most powerful ultra-fast cameras. An exceptional model acquired as part of the ConnectTalents IDS project led by Julien RÉTHORÉ, Senior Researcher based in the GeM - Research Institute in Civil and Mechanical Engineering - at Centrale Nantes since 2016 and recipient of the CNRS Bronze Medal in 2011.

What happens when a crack propagates in a material? What path does the crack take? How fast does it spread? This state-of-the-art, custom-made camera from the United States will allow the GeM teams to conduct their research experiments with pinpoint accuracy:

  • 4 million images/second
  • 80 eight-mega-pixel images
  • 100 000 rpm for the internal helium-powered motor

This high-tech camera completes the equipment in the Dynamic and Static Test Centre. It was acquired as part of the ConnectTalents IDS project led by Julien RÉTHORÉ, recipient of the CNRS Bronze Medal in 2011 and Senior Researcher based in the Modeling and Simulation team in the GeM at Centrale Nantes since 2016.
