Marine Renewable Energies Research Group (GDR EMR)

A research network on Marine Renewable Energies, the Marine Renewable Energies Research Group of the CNRS (The National Centre for Scientific Research) and Centrale Nantes.

The GDR EMR (GDR CNRS 3763) aims to structure the academic community on Marine Renewable Energies. GDRs are groupings, around a scientific objective, of structures under CNRS supervision. These groups thematically structure the community at the national level. The Research Laboratory in Hydrodynamics, Energetics and Atmospheric Environment (LHEEA - CNRS UMR 6598) is a pilot, alongside the LOMC (Laboratoire Ondes et Milieux complexes - Waves and Complex Media Laboratory) of the University of Le Havre (CNRS UMR 6294) of the same GDR.


  • To promote the dissemination of existing knowledge and expertise in and between disciplines: The GDR EMR is a forum that allows for the exchange of expertise and know-how in and between disciplines.
  • To encourage new collaboration, between GDR partners and with industry: The GDR is a point of entry and orientation. It provides a forum for the exchange of information on industrial needs and the skills of the academic community; and allows the actors to get in contact
  • Enhance the standing of the national scientific community: The GDR EMR gives the community visibility, in particular by developing a mapping of actors and themes available on the web platform.


  • Organization of science days: The objective of these days is to allow the participants to exchange on a specific and identified subject, thus promoting the diffusion of knowledge and emulation. Since participation is free, it is also an open forum for exchange and encounter between the various players.
  • Organization of training programmes and thematic training programmes: The objective is to encourage the introduction of training on MREs, especially for the purpose of initiating new entrants (students, doctoral students, young researchers, etc.).
  • Identification of academic players and dissemination of information via a web platform.

Research themes of the GDR EMR:

Theme 1 - Modeling and numerical and experimental simulation, system approaches
Theme 2 - Assessment and control of economic, environmental and societal impacts and opportunities
Theme 3 - Risk control, reliability, operation and life cycle
Theme 4 - Innovative components and breakthrough concepts for the recovery of MREs
The laboratories involved in the coordination of the GdR EMR are: The LHEEA at Centrale Nantes (CNRS UMR 6598), the LOMC at the University of Le Havre (CNRS UMR 6294), the PRISME laboratory at the University of Orléans, the AMURE laboratory of Université de Bretagne Occidentale and IFREMER (CNRS UMR 6308), the LHSV of the École des Ponts-ParisTech (CNRS UMR5519) and the LEGI of the Université Grenoble Alpes (CNRS UMR5519).
