Nantes University (including Centrale Nantes), first and only French university ranked in ocean engineering in the Shanghai's Global Ranking of Academic Subjects

The Shanghai 2025 "Marine/Ocean Engineering" GRAS ranks Nantes Université, which includes Centrale Nantes, France's leader player in ocean engineering, in the top 75 worldwide. This makes it the first and only French institution in this ranking, which lists the world's 100 best universities per academic subject.

The Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS) evaluates world universities across 57 subjects across 5 subject areas. GRAS is based on nine objective indicators grouped into five categories: World-Class Faculty, World-Class Research Output, High-Quality Research, Research Impact, and International Collaboration.

The combined academic strengths of Centrale Nantes and the Sciences & Technology Division have made it possible for Nantes Université to rank among the top 75 in marine/ocean engineering, thanks to its key positioning in this field, supported by unique experimental capabilities such as Centrale Nantes' ocean test tanks.

Nantes University also ranks in the top 200 in Oceanography and Mechanical Engineering, two subjects to which Centrale Nantes makes a significant contribution.

This joint achievement, which is unprecedented in France in this field, reflects both the high quality and impact of the scientific output of Centrale Nantes' research teams and of Nantes Université as a whole.
