Summer School for the Master in Mechanics of Sustainable Materials and Structures at Centrale Nantes

The Summer School for the Master in Mechanics of Sustainable Materials and Structures is being held at Centrale Nantes from 13-18 October 2025 on the theme 'Multi-scale approaches for architectured and microstructured materials and metamaterials'.

from October 13, 2025 to October 18, 2025

Centrale Nantes is hosting the 'Multi-scale approaches for architecture, microstructured materials and metamaterials' Summer School — a six-day interdisciplinary programme dedicated to the latest advances in mechanics and structural engineering for architected materials.

Led by Prof. Angela Madeo and Prof. Jean-François Ganghoffer, the event is bringing together international PhD students and postdoctoral researchers in mechanical and civil engineering, applied mathematics, physics, and materials science.

Through a dynamic mix of lectures, workshops, and hands-on sessions, participants are exploring topics including multiscale modelling, homogenization methods, microstructure-based design, and 3D printing. The programme is offering valuable insights into the mechanics of heterogeneous media and the design of metamaterials with tailored mechanical properties.

The Summer School is coordinated by:
  • Angela Madeo, TU Dortmund, Germany
  • Jean-François Ganghoffer, Université de Lorraine, Nancy, France
With support from
  • Université franco-allemande Deutsch-Französische Hochschule
  • European Commission H2020
  • Giulio Sciarra, Centrale Nantes (Local scientific and organizational support)
