AIM-MED project: Algorithms and Integrated Modelling for Medical Data

AIM-MED is an Erasmus Mundus Design Measures coordinated by École Centrale de Nantes. The project lays the foundations for a future Erasmus Mundus Joint Master programme in Biomedical Engineering and Artificial Intelligence. It focuses on the complete medical data pipeline, from the acquisition of multimodal signals and medical images to data processing, interpretation and clinical decision support.

The project brings together complementary expertise in biomedical engineering, medical instrumentation, computational modelling, signal and image processing, data science and artificial intelligence. It addresses the fragmentation of existing educational programmes by developing an integrated and future-oriented training framework for medical data engineering.

Main objectives

  • To jointly design an integrated Master’s programme combining theoretical and practical training in biomedical engineering, computational methods and artificial intelligence for healthcare.
  • To develop a coherent curriculum structure, mobility scheme and joint academic framework.
  • To establish the governance, quality assurance and administrative arrangements required for a future joint degree.
  • To build a sustainable European network of excellence connecting higher education institutions, research organisations, clinical environments and industry.
  • To embed data protection, ethical and regulatory considerations, sustainability and responsible innovation within the programme concept.

Expected outcomes

By the end of the project, AIM-MED will provide a consolidated academic, organisational and governance framework for a future Erasmus Mundus Joint Master application. The project is intended to support the development of an internationally attractive programme capable of training specialists who can translate innovative research into clinical and industrial applications.
