What is your background?
"I am a South African graduate with a Bachelor's degree in Maritime Studies. Currently pursuing a Master's in Marine Technology with a specialization in Ship Operation and Naval Engineering."

Why did you decide to join Centrale Nantes for this Master's programme?
"I chose to join Centrale Nantes because of its reputation in the marine engineering field, so the prestigious program in Marine Technology with a specialization in Ship Operations and Naval Engineering was ideal for me, since it is a versatile programme with a vast amount of opportunities upon graduation. The comprehensive curriculum, cutting-edge research facilities, and strong industry connections offered by Centrale Nantes were  also pivotal factors in my decision. Additionally, the collaboration with the French Naval Academy adds a unique dimension to the program, providing unparalleled expertise and resources in naval engineering and maritime operations."

What do you enjoy or find challenging about the programme so far?
"I have thoroughly enjoyed the interdisciplinary nature of the program, which combines theoretical knowledge with practical applications from Hydrodynamics to ship operations and naval engineering. The hands-on experience gained through lab work has been invaluable. However, I've found certain aspects of the program, such as advanced engineering concepts, to be intellectually challenging, yet rewarding as they expand my understanding of the field."

What about student life on campus / in Nantes?
"Student life at Centrale Nantes and in Nantes itself is vibrant and dynamic. The campus offers a diverse range of extracurricular activities as well as students' clubs, fostering a strong sense of community among students from various backgrounds. Nantes, with its rich heritage and lively atmosphere, provides ample opportunities for exploration and relaxation."

Any advice for new applicants?
"For prospective applicants to the Atlantic Master program in Ship Operation and Naval Engineering, I recommend thoroughly researching the curriculum and aligning it with your academic and career goals. Embrace the interdisciplinary nature of the program and actively engage with professors and fellow students to maximize your learning experience. Additionally, take advantage of the resources and support services available at Centrale, to enhance your academic and personal development."

What are your plans for the future?
"Upon completing my Master's degree in Marine Technology, I aspire to pursue a career in the maritime industry, particularly in the areas of ship design, naval architecture, or Marine surveying. I am eager to apply the knowledge and skills acquired during my studies to contribute to the advancement of sustainable and efficient maritime industry."
