How do you get public engagement for a digital device? How do you share and inform the public about data produced by connected cities? How do you develop local urban communities? How does information sharing simplify city life and create wealth? These are some of the questions that the Alliance Centrale Nantes-Audencia-ensa Nantes  students will be asked during the Citylab Alliance hackathon so that they can come up with ideas for future services and objects to improve communication in cities of the future.

Interdisciplinary teams - the key to successful innovation
Citylab is bringing together 10 interdisciplinary teams composed of future engineers, managers and architects. They will be working alongside Ouest Medialab, the media cluster responsible for methodology, in collaboration with experts and faculty from the three schools. In each team, the students will have to rise to the challenges proposed by partner companies such as Capgemini, JC Decaux, Clear Channel, SNCF, Valeo, Veolia, La Florentaise, Veleo, Ouest-France and the Loire-Atlantique area.

48 of the students come from Audencia: 20 from the Advanced Master in Marketing Strategy in the Digital Era, 15 from the Advanced Master in Marketing, Design and Creation, 13 from the Master in Communication and Media (Audencia SciencesCom). 20 of the students are following the Geomatics and Urban Planning specialisation at Centrale Nantes and 40 are architecture students at ensa Nantes.

Citylab gives shape to this interdisciplinary dimension of the Alliance which is conducive to innovation - future engineers, managers and architects working together to bring about urban and social innovation.

It takes its inspiration from interdisciplinary competitions such as Hyblab Datajournalisme, a teaching project created four years ago by Ouest Medialab with Audencia SciencesCom, Polytech and AGR. Each year it offers ten or so media outlets and institutions the opportunity to work with engineering students, designers, journalists/communicators to tell a visual story using data.
