Centrale Nantes is raising awareness among its staff and students about responsible event management

Centrale Nantes is firmly committed to sustainable development. Its priorities include: educating students and staff on the environmental, social and societal challenges of sustainable development; reducing its environmental impact; and engaging its stakeholders by setting an example.

Sports competitions, conferences, open days… at Centrale Nantes, a wide range of events punctuate the school’s calendar throughout the year. To ensure these events are in line with the school’s commitment, Centrale Nantes raises awareness amongst its community about the challenges of responsible event management.

In early June 2026, the communications, student life and workplace environment departments were able to receive training in sustainable event management alongside students from the three student unions – arts, sports and the student enterprise – as well as the organisers of the WEI (integration weekend) and the ski club.

Over the course of three hours, the workshop ‘The Responsible Events Fresk’ provided a systematic exploration of the environmental, inclusivity and diversity issues associated with event organisation. The timeline traces the event’s journey from its initial concept through to the depletion of resources.

The participants were able to understand:

  • The environmental impacts of event activities.
  • The consequences of climate and societal change for events.
  • Key approaches to embarking on an ecological transition.

Two practical examples of responsible event management at Centrale Nantes

The group was able to work on two practical case studies, both of which were significant events in student life:

  • the integration weekend, given its strategic importance as the first introduction to student life for incoming students. The workshop provided an opportunity to discuss inclusion and prevention, as well as best practices to be implemented in the coming years.
  • the graduation ceremony, a key event in the life of the school marking the end of studies for some students. The workshop also provided an opportunity to discuss inclusion and sustainable transport, as the event brings together students from all over France and abroad.

The diversity of the participants’ backgrounds made it possible to harness collective intelligence to explore ways of organising events that are in line with the institution’s commitments. This awareness-raising initiative complements the responsible communication charter already adopted by the school.
