Christophe Binetruy, Professor at École Centrale de Nantes and member of the GeM Laboratory (PMM team), was appointed Affiliate Faculty in the Department of Mechanical Engineering of the University of Delaware, in September 2019 for a period of 3 years.

Jean-Michel Buf, Councillor for the Pays de la Loire region, will give a conference at Centrale Nantes - from 9.30am to 12pm on 17 December in Lecture Theatre A - on the circular economy, as part of the Ecological Transition Mornings series.

Following the highly successful first three editions, the "Citylab Hackathon" returns to Nantes, from 19 to 22 November. The fourth edition of Citylab will bring together students of the Centrale - Audencia - Ensa Nantes Alliance, who will try to imagine solutions to the problems proposed by our partners. They will have three days to come up with new services / objects to improve urban mobility.

In line with GDRI GEOMECH's research activities, the GeM is organising a workshop at Centrale Nantes from 18 to 20 November 2019 on: "Advanced methods for the characterization of the durability of porous media".

SBM Offshore is developing a unique type of wave energy converter, which measures 60 metres in length and 1.2 metres in diameter. The operating principle of this prototype is based on wave propagation which deforms a flexible structure made of Electro Active Polymers, thus generating electricity.

OCEANEXT 2019 is the second edition of the international multidisciplinary conference, initiated in 2016 by the COSELMAR programme (2013-2017). Organized by the 'Institut Universitaire Mer et Littoral (IUML)', the general theme of OCEANEXT 2019 is "Building the future of marine and coastal socio-ecosystems". The conference will bring together international scientists and will emphasize the multidisciplinary nature of the issues addressed.

The PHC Sakura project, a Franco-Japanese collaboration between Centrale Nantes and the University of Kobe has just been accepted. The project aims to facilitate and promote cooperation between young Japanese and French researchers.

Naval Group and Centrale Nantes have printed the first demonstrator of hollow propeller blades by metal additive manufacturing as part of the European H2020 project, RAMSSES. Funded by the European Commission, this collaborative programme aims to reduce the environmental impact of ships.

In October 2018, the OPIN (Ocean Power Innovation Network) Project was approved in the sixth INTERREG NWE call for projects. It is coordinated by SEAI (Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland). OPIN aims to accelerate the growth of the European MRE industry by improving the innovation performance of SMEs in North-West Europe, notably by developing their network and their knowledge of innovation.

The new Interreg NWE project Ocean DEMO is officially launched today. It provides funding to developers of marine renewable technologies to test their products or services in real sea environments.
