The combined academic strengths of Centrale Nantes and the Sciences & Technology Division have made it possible for Nantes Université to secure the 41st place in marine/ocean engineering, thanks to its key positioning in this field, supported by unique experimental capabilities such as Centrale Nantes' ocean test tanks.

This joint achievement, which is unprecedented in France in this field, reflects both the high quality and impact of the scientific output of Centrale Nantes' research teams and of Nantes Université as a whole.

We are delighted that Nantes Université, thanks to the decisive quality of the scientific output of Centrale Nantes and the Sciences & Technology Division, is the first French institution to be included in this ranking. This contributes to the visibility and, of course, the international attractiveness of the establishment, for both its research and teaching activities. It is also an important indicator of the synergy of the strengths brought to bear by the experimental institution. - Carine Bernault, President of Nantes Université.

I am particularly pleased that Centrale Nantes has already played a key role this year in Nantes Université's entry into this 41st-place world ranking. I am delighted with this joint achievement, which recognizes the work of our research teams and shows that the momentum generated by Nantes Université is beginning to bear fruit. This ambition must be pursued, in both fundamental and applied research, and must feed into our curricula of excellence in this field, in order to meet the major challenges of the 21st century. - Jean-Baptiste Avrillier, Director of Centrale Nantes.

*ShanghaiRanking began to publish world university ranking by academic subjects in 2009. By introducing improved methodology, the Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS) was first published in 2017. The 2023 GRAS contains rankings of universities in 55 subjects across Natural Sciences, Engineering, Life Sciences, Medical Sciences, and Social Sciences. More than 1,900 out of 5,000 universities across 104 countries and regions are finally listed in the rankings. The GRAS rankings use a range of objective acadamic indicators and third-party data to measure the performance of world universities in respective subjects, including research output, research influence, international collaboration, research quality, and international academic awards.
