Centrale Nantes à la 4e place du classement des écoles d'ingénieurs les plus engagées dans la transition écologique et sociale
Les Echos START and ChangeNOW joined forces in 2021 to produce a ranking of schools and universities with a focus on environmental and social transition issues. 58 institutions participated this year, up from 47 last year.

Centrale Nantes is ranked 4th amongst Engineering Schools.

This new independent ranking is designed to measure and evaluate - over time - the efforts made by schools and universities in terms of ecological and social transition.

It is based on 6 criteria:

  • integration of impact issues into the curriculum
  • strength of the alumni network in the impact sector
  • the strategy and exemplarity of the institution
  • diversity and equal opportunities
  • involvement of student associations in impact issues
  • Academic excellence and employability

Sustainable development and social responsibility at Centrale Nantes

Sustainable development and social responsibility are an integral part of Centrale Nantes' strategy.

In 2021, the school adopted a Sustainable Development Action Plan, drafted jointly with staff, students and graduates, which places ecological, social and societal transition at the heart of its teaching and research activities. Its commitment was made concrete in July 2021 with the school signing up to the Grenoble Accord. 2021 also marked the implementation of an action plan for gender equality produced by the Equality Diversity Committee created in 2020.

3 new engineering programme specialisations on offer to students since the start of the 2022 academic year to respond to societal issues:

► Renewable energies and grid integration
This specialisation is based on the core disciplines taught at Centrale Nantes covering mature renewable energy technologies (wind, solar, hydropower) and emerging technologies (biomass, geoenergy, marine renewable energy) and their connection to the grid.

► Low-tech Engineering
In light of today's ecological and social challenges, this specialisation aims to train engineers capable of building a resilient and sober world. They will work in project mode to design simple objects, systems or services that incorporate technology according to three principles: useful, sustainable and accessible

► Energy control and management
This specialisation offers a training programme that addresses the technological, economic and societal challenges related to the energy sector.
